Early this morning runners gathered in beautiful Miami to take their place and hit the streets in the famous ING Miami marathon.
As the sun was coming up, 6:20 a.m., 21,116 runners took off down Biscayne Boulevard to complete the 26.2 miles marathon. (13.1 for the half-marathon)
Runners from almost 80 countries are competing in the run that started at the American Airlines Arena in Downtown Miami. The marathon course goes through Downtown Miami, Miami, Miami Beach and Coconut Grove and finishes back in Downtown Miami.
The results are in and the winners have crossed the finish line:
The winner: Tesfaye Sendeku Alemayehu of Ethiopia completed the run in 2 hours 12 minutes 57 seconds.
Runner up: 2009 winner – Benazzouz Slimani, of Morocco, finished in 2:18:23.
Third: 2010 winner- Michael Wardian, 2:23:41.
